The Stonedust Sampling in Underground Coal Mines course provides training on the skills and knowledge required to collect or supervise the collection of stonedust samples in underground coal mines. Participants will learn how to conduct sampling, prepare and dispatch samples and maintain the sampling environment.

Who should attend

The Stonedust Sampling in Underground Coal Mines training course suits those working in underground coal mining, in particular mine managers and under-managers, deputies, ERZ controllers and technical services staff.

Pre-requisite

In order to complete the workplace project and have a third-party report signed by a supervisor, participants will need to be working in an underground coal mining environment.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

You can apply for recognition of prior learning for this unit of competency. You will need to supply information on your work history and samples of work, and may need to undertake assessments and/or an interview to determine whether you have met the competency standards. RPL is conducted on a one-on-one basis. Contact us to discuss your RPL options.

Course delivery and assessment

The Stonedust Sampling in Underground Coal Mines course requires some pre-reading of course materials, prior to the 2 day face-to-face training component.

Day 1 includes interactive theory sessions and assessment. Day 2 consists of practical exercises and assessment in the field.

In addition to the training component of the course, participants will be required to complete a post-course workplace assessment within 12 months of the training. On successful completion of all assessments, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
