RIIMCU408D - Apply the spontaneous combustion management plan

This unit provides training on the skills and knowledge required to apply a spontaneous combustion management plan. Participants will learn about the importance of mine factors and mine design, gas and physical indicators, monitoring, sampling and treatment of spontaneous combustion.

It is one of the core units required to gain the RII40415 Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations.

Who should attend

This unit will suit supervisors and technical specialists in underground coal mines. It would also assist deputies and ERZ controllers with the requirements of applying the spontaneous combustion management plan. It would also assist Deputies and ERZ Controllers with the requirements of applying the spontaneous combustion management plan.

Pre-requisite

In order to complete the workplace project and have a third-party report signed by a supervisor, participants would need to be working in an underground coal mining environment.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

You can apply for recognition of prior learning for this unit of competency. You will need to supply information on your work history and samples of work, and may need to undertake assessments and/or an interview to determine whether you have met the competency standards. RPL is conducted on a one-on-one basis. Contact us to discuss your RPL options.

Course delivery and assessment

This unit involves theory and practical simulations. Face-to-face training will take place individually and in small groups. Courses conducted at our Redbank facility will include a live propagation tube explosion and a gas laboratory tour.

Participants will be required to complete written and practical assessments, and a workplace project.

Participants will be required to complete a workplace project and a third-party report within 6 months of the training. On successful completion of all assessments, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
