QMI Updated Statement on Grosvenor Coal Mine Incident (2.30pm 19 May 2020)

QMI’s team remains on site at Grosvenor Coal Mine progressing its investigation into the gas ignition event that caused injuries to five workers.
The underground longwall operations remain suspended and under the control of the QMI.
The collection of evidence and reconstruction of the scene prior to the gas ignition event is being progressed this week.
The QMI investigation team on site includes nine inspectors with specialist expertise in mechanical, electrical, mining, and geological disciplines.
They will be joined on site later this week by two experts in the field of ventilation, gas management and geotechnical management to support the investigation.
QMI will continue interviews with coal mine workers as part of the ongoing investigation.
Underground longwall operations will remain suspended until QMI has gathered the required evidence and fully analysed and assessed the scene.
