Withcott Quarry Statement
Please attribute to a Queensland Mines Inspectorate (QMI) spokesperson.
The QMI has been communicating with the mineral mine and quarry industry for some time advising that each site is required by law to develop and implement an effective safety and health management system.
As a result of an unannounced inspection by the QMI on Thursday 6 February, Withcott Quarry was issued with a directive to suspend operations and to develop and implement an effective safety and health management system.
Operations will continue to be suspended until the QMI is satisfied an effective safety and health management system is in place that adequately protects workers from harm.
A safety and health management system is a documented and auditable system that describes how the operator and site senior executive will ensure that the safety and health of persons is not affected at work. It includes the details and documentation for staff training, operation and the maintenance of plant and equipment.
