QMI Releases Safety Notification on Carborough Downs Mine Incident

QMI is progressing its investigation into the nature and cause of an incident which has resulted in the death of a mine worker at Carborough Downs Underground Mine, near Moranbah.
Preliminary findings from our investigation show that a fall of coal from the longwall face has fatally injured the coal mine worker. The causes of the fall of coal are unknown at this time.
To help prevent future incidents the QMI has issued a notification to Site Senior Executives (SSE’s) to all coal mines in Queensland.
In light of this latest tragic incident QMI is encouraging SSEs to review their procedures for ensuring the safety of coal mine workers when they are performing any work activities on the face side of the Armoured Face Conveyor.
SSEs should also review their procedures around ensuring the safety of coal mine workers when they are performing any work activities in and around the mine near coal ribs.
QMI’s investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
