Wetlands on the move
The Berrinba wetlands are moving – at least, on official maps.
Executive Director of the South Region Wally Kearnan said the boundaries of Marsden, Berrinba and Kingston had been changed to officially put the wetlands in Berrinba, rather than Marsden.
A community survey showing strong support for the change and Logan City Council proposed the change to the State Government.
“These changes will also assist our ambulances and fire brigades to navigate to the destination they need to be to provide their essential services,” Mr Kearnan said.
“These changes will also help in minimising confusion for locals and visitors alike.
“Scrubby Creek will act as a natural boundary between Berrinba and Marsden and will place the Berrinba Wetlands within the suburb of Berrinba.
“The area between the Logan Motorway, Bardon Road and Third Avenue is zoned conservation / non-urban and is better aligned to properties within Berrinba rather than the residential area to the east.
“Community consultation is essential in any decision making process and I applaud members of the community who took this opportunity to help shape their communities future.”
